Our collaboration and friendship is a result of our mutual history of and enthusiasm for working outdoors in response to nature. We met at the May 2001 New England Artist’s Congress in Woodstock, Vermont.
Inspired by the scale, drama and depth of Janet’s work, I returned home
to start a 30 foot x 4 foot painting rolled out on the floor of the
studio on the theme of water. When Janet visited me in June, she asked
what I would do with it next and I replied that perhaps I would put it
in Moose Pond. Her eyes lit up and early the next morning we were in the
water. The paper responding to the water was delightful. Janet suggested the collaboration when I visited her studio within walking distance of the New Haven River in Lincoln, Vermont. We have sent and driven the papers back and forth between Maine and Vermont, drawing, painting and writing on them as a correspondence about being in water… I most enjoy working outdoors, capturing moments with a camera and being spontaneous with the wet papers. Janet works in and out of the studio directly onto paper with a multitude of media. www.janetfredericks.co |
